Sam Gish

Consultant

Sam Gish is a Benefits Consultant at GBS who helps employers make confident, data-informed decisions about their health and welfare programs. Known for combining analytical depth with practical strategy, Sam partners with executives and HR leaders to manage healthcare costs, negotiate favorable renewals, improve reporting, and strengthen the employee experience.

Sam works with employers across a wide range of industries and plan sizes, with particular strength supporting organizations whose benefits programs require deeper analytics, strategic renewal planning, and multi-year cost management.

His approach is especially valuable for employers navigating rising healthcare costs, complex renewal decisions, vendor strategy, population health opportunities, and the need to communicate benefits decisions clearly to leadership.

Since joining GBS in 2018, Sam has built his expertise across underwriting, analytics, and population health, including his prior role as a Population Health Analyst. That foundation shapes his consulting style today: he uses claims data, financial analysis, market insight, and risk evaluation to help clients understand what is driving cost and where meaningful opportunities exist.

Clients value Sam for being responsive, prepared, and steady under pressure, giving clients a trusted advisor they can rely on when decisions carry financial, operational, and employee-impact consequences. He quick to engage, clear in his recommendations, and dedicated to doing the detailed work required to help clients make sound decisions. His work has included helping employers reduce trend, improve reporting, negotiate favorable renewals, and support multi-year wellbeing strategies.

Sam earned a B.S. in Statistics from Brigham Young University with an emphasis in actuarial science. His background includes graduate-level study in Data Science at Harvard University, where he later served as adjunct faculty for a master’s-level course. Before settling in Arizona with his wife and family, Sam lived throughout the United States and spent two years in Taiwan, where he learned Mandarin Chinese and built lasting friendships. Outside of work, Sam enjoys playing guitar with his children, spending time outdoors, golfing, reading, writing, traveling, and being with family and friends.
